"Lots of quiet emptiness in this small painting. Wondering what lessons we will hold on to, and what we will leave behind."

Sequestered Dance is the beginning of a series I plan on doing upon a very old cherry tree which I call "Granny" that keeps on blossoming in the spring. Recently I discovered that she is blooming because a younger tree is growing inside!"

"This was created for a friend who is a song leader and choir member at her church. The title, 'Songs of Praise,' was inspired by her favorite hymn, 'O God Beyond All Praising,' particularly the lines: 'We sing the love amazing that words cannot repay,' and 'And whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill, we'll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless You still.'
"I've had a very hard time doing anything creative since we began sheltering in place. Except for this one collage, I've mainly been doing extremely small, artist trading card-sized (3-1/2" x 2-1/2") black and white doodles. It's not just being unable to go to my studio. Normally I find challenges such as having limited equipment and supplies quite motivating, but for the past two months -- ever since the virus began making headlines and social distancing became part of our vocabulary -- it's been a struggle to find any creative energy. There is so much uncertainty ... not knowing if the economy will recover, not knowing how many of my friends will survive, and especially not knowing from day to day if I've already been infected. My whole existence feels like I'm just 'waiting for the other shoe to drop.' I'm not consciously thinking, 'if I start a large piece now, will I live to finish it?' but that's what I'm feeling in the pit of my stomach."

"I painted 'Hope Rising' at the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic as a silent auction donation for Hope Loves Company's Night of Hope fundraiser that was scheduled to happen March 28 and had to be cancelled because of the quarantine. Hope Loves Company is an organization that supports children and families of people afflicted with ALS (aka Lou Gerhrig's Disease)."

"I created this as a tribute to the American nurse utilizing a B&W image from the Getty archives (1918 flu pandemic; Red Cross nurse) and digitally editing it. The archbishop of Philadelphia called on nuns to care for those struck down by the Spanish Flu after warnings from the Red Cross that there was a shortage of nurses.

"This was painted March 27, 2020, on a back road in Cranbury, NJ. It was a beautiful spring afternoon. Plein-air painting is feeding my soul a bit more these days and it's something I can do with a friend/s while being mindful of staying 6' apart. It's also something I can do on my own and re-connect with the essense of my spirit that is so available through nature. As the day was coming to a close I noticed people coming out for a walk, run, and general break from being inside while practicing social distancing. One of the gifts I am witnessing through this experience is more people in the neighborhood being outdoors. There's a feeling of community and connection -- like we are all in this together and that feels very comforting to me."

"Much of this image came from my imagination. I used a photo I had once seen as inspiration."
