The FLOWERS of STANGL

Spring and Summer-time = prime time to admire the hand-painted flower patterns of Stangl pottery.

The designs were mostly created by artist Kay Hackett. A visit to the Philadelphia Art Museum in 1941 by Kay and her boss, Martin Stangl, inspired decades of Pennsylvania Dutch themes and patterns in Stangl ceramics.

Consider the difficulty of hand-painting some of these complex designs on curved surfaces.

These fun and festive ceramics were made on New York Avenue in Trenton, near Mulberry Street and Route 1.
