Pysanka Workshop
Thursday, April 17; 6 – 9:30 p.m.
Instructor: Basia Andrusko
- Supplies and materials included with your fee
- Wine, cheese, and other refreshments included
Just in time for the Easter season, we will explore the art, symbolism, and joy in creating pysanky. Students will learn the age-old method of applying hot beeswax to an emptied chicken egg using a stylus, over a succession of dye baths. When the pattern is completed, the wax is removed over a candle flame, revealing the colors and pattern. This pysanka, or Ukrainian Easter egg, can then be displayed on a stand or hung as an ornament.
Materials (including blown egg), supplies, and instruction will be provided to complete one or two eggs. Kits will also be available for purchase, so that students can continue the craft at home to make pysanky and wax-resist batik-style eggs for all seasons of the year and all occasions.
Approximate class time: 3.5 hours
Limit 12 participants. Reserve now. $65 general public; $60 TMS members
