Grace Little’s story is one of perseverance, determination and strength, qualities that manifest themselves through her powerful voice. That power and her vocal versatility have earned her the moniker of Amazin Grace.
Born in Jersey City, Grace moved to Trenton at the age of five. Growing up in Trenton with six siblings, Grace was inspired to consider a life in music by her mother, a gospel singer, and her father who sang in the church choir. The whole family would come together in the evenings to listen to records and perform some of their favorite songs. “Joey” a Natalie Cole tune that she played over and over again captivated young Grace. By the age of twelve, Grace was already doing amazing things. She not only auditioned at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, but wowed the amateur night audience with her astonishing performance and won in the adult category.
At an audition at Trenton Central High School, Grace met a mentor who began giving her voice lessons. At age 13, Grace began performing professionally with a four- piece band. By 17, Grace had signed with a management company and began performing in musical theatre in famous plays like The Wiz, Dream Girls, playing Effie, a role originated by Jennifer Holiday, and Oh Calcutta. Grace traveled widely with these productions seeing all that the world had to offer.
While singing at a private party in Camden, NJ, Grace caught the attention of the musically quintessential Leon Huff, one half of the Philadelphia International Records label. A subsequent phone call resulted in a full length CD titled “Amazin Grace” being released by PIR.
