Sunday, March 21, 2010 Known as a celebrated and innovative master of romantic music, was Frederic Chopin also the first jazz pianist? This question will be artistically contemplated with fingers set to keyboard as accomplished and versatile musician Vince di Mura directs his own creative vision to the exploration of the works by this virtuoso composer. Vince di Mura, a classical and veteran Jazz musician and musical director, has appeared on concert stages and in theatres throughout North America, Canada, and Latin America, advancing a career which has been recognized through receipt of a myriad of fellowships, and has produced an extensive portfolio of compositional commissions. Among the numerous musical productions he has directed, Vince is best known for his arrangements of "My Way: A Tribute to the Music of Frank Sinatra," and "I Left My Heart: A Tribute to the Music of Tony Bennett" (with over 400 productions, nationally). Vince has also premiered concert versions of two spoken word/jazz operas which have been performed throughout the tri-state area: "A Poet In Harlem" with text by Nuyorican poet, Willie Perdomo; and "For Lost Words", based on the Vietnam poetry of Yusef Komunyakaa. No stranger to the recording studio, Vince di Mura, with the George Street Project, has produced two CDs: "Imperfect Balance", and "A Darker Shade of Romance".
